Odell Thurman accused of assault over the weekend. Just when things start to look up for the kid...

Alot of people thought that the Giants were getting the same guy as Sinorice Moss when they drafted Steve Smith. Moss doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

The Saints know they are not going to sneak up on anyone this year. Drew Brees isn't worried about it. "I pretty much know what this situation feels like," Brees said.

"Oh-four, oh-five with the Chargers we went from a surprise team to a team that everybody was ready for and that didn't turn out the way we wanted." (It didn't turn out the way Brees wanted, either; the Chargers lowballed him in the offseason, leading to his signing with the Saints, the classic blessing-in-disguise that was painful at the time). I realize it's harder to repeat success than to be successful the
first time," said Brees. "It's going to be hard to do what we did last
year."

"We wouldn't rule anything out in terms of when we would talk to Rex. All Rex has to do is keep doing what he's doing: developing as a quarterback. He had a very good year last year. We were disappointed as he was with the inconsistent play at times. But we feel good about Rex's future. We want Rex to be our quarterback for a long time. He's got to continue to go out and improve. He knows that. We need to see that obviously, but we feel real good about the direction he's going in."

Coach Crennel says Charlie Fry has the leg up on the Browns QB job right now. Not a very glowing endorsement though

Looks like they are tacking a felony obstruction of justice on to former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jack Trudeau's contributing charge.

For the second year in a row the Cardinals have sold out their season tickets.

Tank Johnson gets to sit out for half the season. I'm guessing he will gladly take that over the time he did in Casa Cook County.

"One day I want to be the face of the league for guys who have come through adversity and ultimately become the Man of the Year in the NFL," Johnson said in May following his release from jail. "That would be a tremendous ending to this story. That's something I'm striving for. I would love to do that."

Former Bills RB, Thurman Thomas, is getting set for his big day in Canton.

Given the drafting of a Center in the 2nd round by the Panthers, Justin Hartwig is wondering about his job.

"I was really surprised," Hartwig said Monday. "You immediately start to question things about yourself and what the team is doing."

Rod Marinelli is pleased with the turnout and work of his boys at minicamp.

"The attendance has been great," Marinelli said after Monday's workout. "The work's been great. I appreciate their work. I tell them that every day.

"Obviously, it's not mandatory. I think they've taken a tremendous professional approach to this game -- a real professional football team. They come out every day. They just go out and work -- the same pace, the same tempo.

"I've been very impressed with them."

Robert Meachum will undergo arthroscopic surgery tomorrow. He looks to miss 3-4 weeks.

No more boozing it up in the locker rooms or on the planes. Players now have to save it for in the car...where they have been so diligent about not drinking.

Looks like the UFL needs seven more rich guys to make a league. Mark Cuban is the only one reported to be on board so far and they are looking at 8 teams.

Cuban had some opinions he shared on his blog regarding the subject HERE.

Evander Holyfield took a break from his training to give a pep talk to the Texans.

"I thought it was great for him to take the time to stop by here and talk to our guys," coach Gary Kubiak said. "It's amazing looking in the faces of those young players and the intrigue and what he's accomplished.

"The thing that I got out of it is he talked about passion, he talked about commitment and he talked about being a good guy. Those are things we talk about all the time, but when somebody like that stops by here and echoes those remarks that is as powerful as it gets. I'm just very appreciative that he came by."

Yes, the Trent Green trade talk is still going. The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have adjusted their offer for Green to sweeten the deal a little bit.

Larry Zierlein is doing what we all do when we send porn to someone we didn't plan to in our contacts...tell them it was spam. Seriously though he is stepping up (if you get any from me though it was sent to me as spam).

"It was 100 percent unintentional,'' Zierlein said yesterday, speaking publicly for the first time about his embarrassing mistake. "I don't even know how to mass email, I don't know these machines very good -- just a 100 percent unintentional thing. I hit the wrong button."

Cam Cameron and Randy Mueller are priding themselves with giving second chances...(Sorry Ricky, all the "Chance" cards are gone for you).

.We know it is a version of sitting in a corner with a dunce hat on at the most but Braylon Edwards got to practice with the 3rd team for playing hooky.

Yep, Pete Prisco said it...J.P. Losman-Star QB.

Realfootball365 seems to think this may be Losman's year as well.

The Colts are feeling the turnover reality of the NFL. Only 11 remain from when Dungy took the team over.

The Panthers have kicked off minicamp.

The Texans are trying some new things at Free Saftey.

"They all have to improve at getting turnovers," defensive backs coach Jon Hoke said. "We have not been very good at that. With Glenn and C.C., you have two guys that are physical guys and can tackle and will hit people and those types of things. But they both understand we need to find ways to get our hands on the ball and create more turnovers."

Word is the union of Jeff Garcia and Jon Gruden has been in the works for a while according to Garcia's Daddy.

"This has been in the works for three years," said Garcia's father, Bob, a former junior-college football coach. "There was always something in the way. The money. The salary cap. This and that.

"Now Jeff has the opportunity he always wanted, to play for this coach. I can't wait. As far as I'm concerned, I say, 'It's about time.' "

Peterson could make 1/2 of scary duo

Last season the Saints had no choice but to take Reggie Bush when he fell to the #2 spot the night before the draft. Bush made the perfect sidekick to Deuce McAllister in the new Saints offense. The pairing worked perfectly because Bush did not take away from the bread and butter running of Deuce. He was used more to spell McAllister, decoy, and in the passing game.

This season a team that seems to have their #1 running back could face a decision if Adrian Peterson falls to them. Peterson is a different type of RB but teams are leaning more toward the running back by committee approach. Peterson has been projected to go anywhere from 3# to the Browns all the way to #12 with the Bills. The reason for the big gap is that many of those teams appear to be set, or at least manageable at the RB position. Let's have a look at what kind of pairings could develop if someone did pull the trigger. (No, I'm not always addressing teams needs, I'm talking about if it were to happen.)

Raiders
With the glaring needs in other positions it won't happen. Beyond the other needs, the signing of Dominic Rhoads and the current starter LaMont Jordan would make it too crowded.

Lions
It could have happened here but the Lions went out and got T.J. Duckett and Tatum Bell to carry the rock while Kevin Jones is recovering.

Browns
Easily the first place it could happen. Don't let the Jamal Lewis signing fool you. He is not the long term, or possibly even the short term answer. It may be the perfect situation for Peterson to share the load with Lewis in his first season. Many rookie RB's run out of gas toward the end of their first season.

Bucs
This would be a long shot since the Bucs have Caddy Williams on the squad and he was picked just two years ago. Granted, he had somewhat of a bomb of a season last year but two top 5 RB's in three drafts isn't likely. It could make for a nice pairing though.

Cardinals
The Edge would not be happy but this is a tasty scenerio as well. James is getting older but thinks he is going to play forever so it wouldn't make for a pretty locker room. If they got past that though you could have another reason to think this will be the breakout year for the Cards offense.

Redskins
Another crowded backfield. The Skins like Ladell Betts but could move him on draft day if they wanted to make room for Peterson. Don't think it will happen but Peterson and Portis would make a nice pairing.

Vikings
This is actually another projected spot for Peterson to fall. Chester Taylor had a decent season but he isn't the home run hitting franchise back that Peterson will be. The Vikings have not had THE guy since Robert Smith retired.

Falcons
Jerious Norwood had a decent rookie campaign last season. Peterson coming to Atlanta would give them the significant threat at the position though. They say they want to pound the ball and this could do it.

Dolphins
Like the Bucs, you don't take two RB's in the top 10 in three years. Pairing Peterson with Ronnie Brown could be interesting. Ricky Williams coming back could make for a crowded backfield but trading him away could make room for Peterson. Longest shot since the raiders in my eyes.

Texans
Another landing spot for Peterson on many mock drafts. Like the Browns, the Texans went out and got an RB in free agency in Ahman Green. Call me crazy but I think that Kubiak guy has been know to use more than one RB in Denver. I would love to see this be the place for Peterson to fall and that is because I want to see the Texans succeed.

49'ers
Frank Gore came out like a warrior last season. Not a logical choice at all but what a scary duo it would make .

Bills
No team needs Peterson more than the Bills. McGahee is gone and Anthony Thomas has not been the answer since his rookie season. The Bills would be blessed if Peterson somehow fell this far.

NFL Jabber 4/5/07

There is more and more talk of the Raiders taking Calvin Johnson with the #1 pick. Peter King at SI.com throws out the scenario that this blogger suggested sometime ago. Take Johnson #1 and Drew Stanton at the top of round two.

Michael Turner's visit with the Bills was postponed. Said to be an airline problem. Could it be things are heating up with the Titans? Was there a Wizzinator involved? A trap door in a water bottle? Likely lost luggage...

Ten run-ins with the law later Pacman sucks up to the Titans.

"Whatever the punishment is, I am going to be a man and I am going to take responsibilities and own up,'' Jones said. "Hopefully it won't be that long or nothing that could jeopardize my career."

"I have put myself in some bad situations as far as picking my places where to go and picking who to take with me, so I take total responsibility for that,'' Jones said. "But you live and you learn and if it keeps on happening, then you can point the finger and be like, 'Well, he still ain't learning.' … Trust me, I have hit the wall.''

The other NFL bad boy, Chris Henry isn't expected to get as big of a smack.

In the year 2007 it is still headline news when a woman gets a big gig. The Packers appointed Viki Vannieuwenhoven (say that one time fast) is the new VP.

NFL Jabber 3/31/07

Michael Turner is on the list of some teams for RB. The Packers and Bills have been mentioned. Now the Titans are showing interest. The Chargers may get a hell of a payday for their backup RB.

Kevin Faulk has no doubt that he and Lawrence Maroney can carry the load in New England.

"If he has to take more of the load, there is no doubt in my mind he can do it," Faulk said of Maroney, who had offseason shoulder surgery. "The thing about it is that he wants to be that guy for you. He is a competitor.

"Change happens all the time, but I don't see the group being different. Sammy seems like a great guy, so the thing will be finding how we all fit in, seeing what our niche will be as a running back group."

Pete Prisco has JaMarcus Russell at #20 on his list of draft prospects.

Have to chuckle at the response Tommie Harris gave when asked about Lance Briggs. I know reporters have to ask what is going on with the hot topic but come on...go to the source.

"I have talked to Lance, and Lance is doing fine," Harris said during the start of this weekend's Bears Fan Convention. "Lance is downstairs if you guys want to talk to him."

Keeping their backfield stocked, the Jags have re-signed LaBrandon Toefield.

Ron Jaworski can be moving up from the Arena League to NFL this year after Joe Theisman gets the boot from MFL.

Dexter Reid hits the trifecta. (1)Pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving with (2)pot and a (3)gun in the car.

Bengals President Mike Brown shoots down trade rumors for Takeo Spikes.

"We have a high regard for Takeo. But our (salary) cap room does not allow for a deal of the magnitude necessary to trade for him," Bengals president Mike Brown said.

The Lions have a dilemma with the #2 pick. Keep it, trade it? You can be sure they will be working it at the NFL's annual meetings. Meanwhile the Lions signed former Raven guard, Edwin Mulitalo (fun to say, isn't it?).

Word is the Chiefs are asking for a 2nd round pick and an undetermined pick for Trent Green. The Dolphins are not moving. Risky move considering they will likely cut Green if they can't trade him and David Carr is also being sniffed around by the Fins.

Mike Tomlin is putting the smackdown on distractions in steeltown.

"I want to eliminate the variables that don't matter," said Tomlin, attending his first league-wide meeting. "That's what the great teams do more than anything else -- they show up, and they play the game. That's a culture. It's not something that happens week in and week out. It's a culture that defines that kind of atmosphere."

The Falcons have contacted Tim Rattay about the backing up Mike Vick.

New Orleans is out of the race to host the 2011 Super Bowl. On a brighter note, state officials reached an agreement with the Saints to keep them in town at least that long.

Jason Cambbell officially began studying for the 2007 season to be the Skins starter.

NFL Jabber 3/10/07

Jake Plummer is making it official. "I wanted to come in and tell you guys on camera and face-to-face that the speculation can stop tonight," Plummer said from the Denver Athletic Club. "You can know by the looking in my face and hearing my words that I am retiring from the NFL. At 32 years old, I'm running away from the game. Not in fear or fright, but health-wise. I'm healthy. I'm happy. I have a lot to look forward to in my life."

Fans booed the idea of the Packers trading for Randy Moss at the yearly Packer Fan Fest. fans are going as far as calling the office of Chairman and CEO Bob Harlen. "I don't want to say it's been overwhelming, but there have been a few fans who (complained)," Harlan said. "And the thing they basically say to me is, "You guys have so much class. Don't lose class now."


The pictures are out of the new Chargers uniforms that were announced yesterday. i thought there was going to be more powder blue. No sign of the new helmet yet although YAHOO! Sports is saying it is going to be metallic white.

T.J. Duckett is going to Michigan to where he played his college ball. The Lions signed him to a one year deal.

The Fins have made an offer to Donte Stallworth. It has not been accepted at this point.

Willis McGahee made his first public appearance yesterday in Baltimore and used it to bash his old teammates. "My situation wasn't that great in Buffalo," said McGahee, who was flanked by General Manager Ozzie Newsome and Coach Brian Billick. "I thank God for getting the 990 [rushing yards last season] to tell you the truth. If you look at it, I missed two games and was facing nine guys in the box a lot. If you get to a better team with receivers, a quarterback, a line helping out, it's going to be hard to stop everybody."

The Eagles have been fairly quiet. They did sign WR/KR Bethel Johnson but that is about it. I would hope they keep looking at WR because that is not quite the Stallworth replacement they are going to need. Coach Andy Reid is still on his leave of absence.

The fan that won the bidding on Mike Ditka's NFC Championship ring from 1975 was presented the jewel. The $12,000 goes to former NFL players in need. "If people like Gene Upshaw (NFLPA executive director) would wake up and the NFL owners and the commissioner would wake up and right a wrong, that's all we're saying. A lot of guys out there right now need help and they don't know how to find the help," Ditka said.

Apparently the Titans did not know of two arrests of Pacman Jones in Georgia last year. How the hell do you not know your player gets arrested twice? Anyway, they can use this to suspend him.

The Cards have given Saftey Terrence Holt a five year deal.

The Bills get three draft picks from the Ravens for Willis McGahee. "We're getting a dynamic back who has the potential to diversify our running game," Ravens coach Brian Billick said.

A year after drafting two respected TE's, the Rams signed Randy McMichael. ''I'm excited,'' McMichael said. ``I made a special bond with Scott when he was in Miami. I talked just to him and he's excited, too. I think this is going to escalate my numbers to another level."

Joey Porter is taking shots already. Says he may have stayed a Steeler if Cower had stayed.

All eyes are on LenDale White now in Tennessee. White said, "They drafted me and wanted me to come in and be the guy and now that Travis is gone it looks like I'll be the man. This is an opportunity to really showcase what I can do and I am really excited about it."

Jamal Lewis sights the Browns commitment to the running game as his reason for signing...like they aired it out a lot in Baltimore. "The Browns have made some good additions to the offensive line and they are committed to making more," Lewis said. "I think they're going to give me the carries I need. I knew it wasn't going to happen in Baltimore. Their profile seems to be they're wanting to be a passing team."

Patrick Ramsey won't be getting sacked in Houston, he is going to Denver. With all the QB's being pursued by The Texans, David Carr's days have to be numbered.

Corey Dillon is going to meet with the Bills.

Eric Johnson is pumped to be a Saint. "I took one visit, just to New Orleans," Johnson said from the lobby of the Windsor Court Hotel on Wednesday night. "I liked what I saw. I really love the team. I like what Coach (Sean) Payton has to say. I'm really excited to be here."

Chris Simms says he isn't surprised the Bucs went QB happy. "I wasn't entirely shocked [by the Garcia signing]," Simms said Wednesday during an interview with ESPN Radio host Dan Patrick. "I know Coach [Jon] Gruden and the way he is and the way this league is."

Just thinking...How scary is the Dolphins D with just the addition of Joey Porter? ``Everybody is well aware of how high that Zach [Thomas] and Jason [Taylor] set the bar, and I think that we just acquired another guy who does the same thing.''

Bobby Wade is the new WR in Minny. The former Bear and Titan got five years, $15 million. Not bad for a guy who averaged about 25 catches over four years.

Raiders WR Jerry Porter is pretending last season never happened. "Last season never happened for me, so I don't even remember it and can't even talk about it," Porter said in a 25-minute interview on Sirius Radio. "This year, we've got an offensive-minded coach, a nice, bright, young guy. He's coming in, willing to work hard; I'm willing to work with him. We got a lot of things in place. We need a lot of help, but we've got a good start."

With all the loses to free agency Jeff Fisher is telling Titan fans not to panic. "It is really pretty simple,'' Fisher said. "It is subtraction and it is addition. So when you're down three, people are saying, 'What are you doing?' The perception may be we are spinning our wheels and we're getting caught off-guard here. Well, that is not the case. We have a plan.''

NFL Jabber 3/7/07

What a difference a year makes. Last year a free agent coming into New Orleans would be faced with the thought of going to a historically losing team, and the post-Katrina stuff. After the 2007 season it looks more appealing. Ask LB, Brian Simmons. "I wanted to go somewhere that had what I call some stabilizing forces, one being the head coach and one being the quarterback. They certainly have that here," said Simmons, who spent his first nine seasons in Cincinnati before being released in a salary-cap move last week. "I'm excited about the team as a whole. I was excited by my meeting with the coach and impressed by the general manager. Plus, I'm from North Carolina. I've been up north for nine years, and I was excited to be back down south."

The Bills look serious about getting Willis McGahee out of town. Dominic Rhoads has been in for a visit and Chris Brown of the Titans is on the list.

Brown is also making a trip to Green Bay.

The Texans brought in Patrick Ramsey, QB, and Saints LB Danny Clark on Tuesday. Clark says he would be concentrating on being a starter in Houston...maybe he should always do that and he would have the job.

Pats TE, Daniel Graham is heading to the Mile High City.

Sounds as if the Bears are not giving up ground with Lance Briggs. "We have his rights, so he's on our football team," Angelo said Tuesday during a conference call to discuss the trade of leading rusher Thomas Jones to the New York Jets. We feel that we're treating him very good. That's a lot of money he's making on a one year-deal. The strain really comes to us in terms of our cap and what we have to do for a one-year deal."

Jamal Lewis returning to Baltimore is looking less likely. The ravens are thinking McGahee trade, Lewis has meeting with the Browns. "At this point, I'm less optimistic than I was last week," Lewis' agent, Mitch Frankel, said yesterday.

CB Dre Bly is pouting that he would rather play for the Skins than the Broncos.

The Dolphins have been called about trading for Trent Green.

Despite rumors that Donte Stallworth had a deal with the Pats, he is meeting with the Titans today.

The Seahawks feel like the guy who is just about to score with the hot chick in school then she goes back to her old boyfriend. (Translated-Stud Guard Kris Dielman decided to stay in San Diego).

In Atlanta the fans want Georgia Tech WR Calvin Johnson in the draft. Meanwhile the falcons signed Cincy LB Marcus Whilkens to the 3 year deal.

Derrick Dockery signed the biggest deal in Bills history, 7 years, $49 million.
