Just being a fan today...

So I'm trapped at my mother's house today without my usual tools I use to wander around the web for NFL Jabber. Oh I could still do it, I really just don't feel like it. Instead I have decided to just be a sports fan today and browse around some of my favorite sites. Which leads me back here to The Bloghouse because I feel I have to share.

A couple of things I wanted to share are Sports by Brooks new girl, Teressa. Yep, that's both of them...Click on the link to see Teressa and here reasons.

This could be the break out year for Vernon Davis if he can stay out of the healing room.

After a "disappointing" season, Jake Delhomme has the pressure of the team performing and David Carr lurking with the clipboard.

Yes folks...there are expectations in Houston. Coach has made alot of moves and they can't blame it on getting Capers leftover crap this year.

Culpepper joins "As the QB World Turns"

It was just a couple weeks ago when Daunte Culpepper talked about how he didn't worry about things like new QB's coming in. That was shortly after the Fins used a 2nd round pick on a QB.

So let's recap the last week for C-Pep. He was given the green light to take his knee on the practice field on Monday. Tuesday those trade talks for Trent Green finally came to a head. As no surprise Daunte was told on Wednesday he was going to be traded. Culpepper, who doesn't worry about things like that, told the team on Thursday he would like to be released.

He isn't going to go easy. Although understanding about the business side of the situation, Culpepper feels slighted by the Dolphins here. He makes a very good point in our opinion addressing it on Thursday.

"I must say the impatience the organization displayed in both encouraging me to rush back on the field last year and then rushing me out the door this year is disappointing," Culpepper said. "However, I understand that they have the right to make that business decision. It is now my turn to make some decisions."

So with that we come to Friday. As practice started Culpepper was right there along with the other QB's tossing balls around. He was told prior to practice that he would not be getting any reps beyond one-on-one drills. The Dolphins do have to protect their investment...for now...right? They can't have him getting hurt when they are already trying to trade away his knee and salary.

"I understand totally what's going on," said Culpepper, who is adamant that he wants to be released, not traded. "Instead of wasting time out there watching practice, I went into the weight room and got a little bit stronger.

"They are going to do what's best for them," Culpepper said before correcting himself by adding, "what they think is best for them."

Headlines were a bit misleading. Saying he was "escorted" off the field (by the guy who had the keys to the weight room)paints a picture of a disgruntled postal employee. I don't think he is going to come back with a gun dressed in camo. He is going to hit them where it hurts in the pocket book.

"Any team that's interested in my services, just sit tight," Culpepper said. "I'm not going to agree to a trade."

Culpepper, who acts as his own agent, knows that his contract would have to be restructured for a trade to happen...and he just plain isn't going to do it. I don't blame him.

So what is in store for Culpepper now? Many think he should sit out 2007 and heal. Daunte could be thinking this too, giving him time to have a stare down with the Dolphins.

NFL Jabber 6/8/07

I suggested a week or so ago that if they wanted to be taken seriously prosecuting Mike Vick they needed someone not named Poindexter. The Feds have moved in and stole Poindexter's thunder. How is he supposed to make his "bones" if someone else is digging them up?

"This comes as a shocker to me," Poindexter said. "That's the thing that's so strange, that they've taken such an interest in this. Michael Vick is so big, I guess they want in, too. They want some of this limelight. It's like someone wants to make their bones (reputation) on this case."

Tom Brady is knocking his new WR's down a little bit. It sounds as if he doesn't want people to think these guys are going to "save" the Pats. If I was Tom and didn't like the spotlight on my personal life I would let them have it.

"You hear so much about the new guys, and I kind of take offense a little bit to the guys we had last year and how hard they worked," Brady said. "We were in the AFC Championship game. I think over the last half of the season we threw the ball pretty effectively, and Reche had the best year of his career, Jabar had one of the best years of his career, Troy [Brown] had a great year, Ben [Watson] had the best year of his career. So a lot of guys put in a lot of work last year.

"I think everyone thinks that we get all these new players and all of a sudden we're destined for these huge expectations, but that's not the way it works in football. You've got to go out and everybody's got to find a role and you've got to do the little things that you don't really recognize on TV."

Daunte Culpepper does not want to sit around and wait like his new (for now) teammate, Trent Green. He is asking to be released.

Things have been quiet on the Jets front this offseason. They did pick up a stud RB and the offense is excited about their passing game.

Jerry Jones likes having a National Enquirer rep leading his team.

"We all want Tony to be everything he can be on the field," Jones said. "From my perspective, I like his colorfulness off the field. That is good for the Cowboys and good for football. There is an element here that is entertainment and you have to back it up with action. But if you are in my shoes, you are looking at the Cowboys franchise ... our role and where we are from an entertainment standpoint."

It's good to have goals SJax!

"My goal is 2,500 total yards from scrimmage," Jackson saidThursday. "And how I get it doesn't matter. But I want to get to that number."

NFL Jabber 6/6/07

New Bronco, Sam Adams, is five pounds lighter than his listed weight of 350...which basically means they weighed him before lunch.

Now with Trent Green is gone the Chiefs can concentrate on keeping Larry Johnson unhappy.

So on the same day that the Fins get Green...Culpepper is shooting off the email letting everyone know he has medical clearance...

'Andrews did a thorough exam with X-rays and gave me a very positive report and clearance for this week's mini-camp,'' Culpepper wrote Tuesday. ``Today, the Dolphins also cleared me so I am preparing to practice tomorrow [Wednesday]."

Mike Martz is playing Pop-Warner coach with Drew Stanton.

"He broke the way I hold the ball, putting my fingers up and more toward the point of the ball so it can really roll off my index finger," Stanton said. "He rotated my wrist, too, so that the ball turns out with my grip so that I can snap it more. I hold the ball tight to my chest now, instead of holding it back a bit, which led to things like my front shoulder going down and the weight not being on my back knee like he wanted it to be."

Vernand Morency wants to be the next surprise RB to come off the bench in the NFL.

"I really don't pay a lot of attention to what people are saying or what's in the newspapers," Morency said. "People questioning me is something that has been with me my whole life. In high school (in Miami), I had to follow my brother as the running back. Then in college at Oklahoma State, it was Tatum Bell. There's always been uncertainty about me replacing somebody. That doesn't affect me. I just go out and work harder."

It's getting Green in Miami...

FINALLY! It's over. Trent Green is now a Dolphin. The Chiefs get a 5th rounder in the 2008 draft that can become a 4th rounder depending on playing time. So we know they have the bigger balls in KC. These two teams have been waiting for the other to crack for months.

It's a good thing Cullpepper doesn't think about these kinds of things...

NFL Jabber 6/4/07

What a crappy QB battle in Kansas City. I feel for the fans. You have Trent Green, who is just taking up space right now, waiting for a call from another team. He is taking away reps from...Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard. And at this point they have no idea who is going to win this nail biter (I'm guessing not Green as he keeps looking at his watch and then at the phone).

Not all Redskin fans are convinced that Jason Campell is the answer.

Lorenzo Booker is going a little nuts in the temp housing. Perfect for a Dolphins RB.

''I can't take it, man,'' said Booker, currently lodged at the local spot in Davie where rookies typically stay until they find more permanent housing. ``One week in this place is enough. I need to find a house as soon as possible.''

As the Saints wrap minicamp, rookie WR, Robert Meachum, wraps his leg and sits out. He wouldn't speak to reporters but Drew Brees commented on him.

"I like him," Brees said. "I think he's been real hampered by his ankle and that sort of thing, but I think he's got a lot of talent. I really like the way he catches the ball. He attacks it, and I think he's going to be a big run-after-catch kind of guy. He's going to be big and physical, kind of hard to bring down, kind of like a (Marques) Colston. So I think he'll add a nice dimension to our offense."

Tarvaris Jackson is doing well in practice...until they have people coming at him.

The Bengals minicamp will be featured on the NFL Network today.

It appears that Curtis Martin's retirement is not set in stone...or is it?

NFL Jabber 6/3/07

Players on the Ravens feel they are going to be knocking on the door of the Super Bowl in 2007.

HBO is going to joining the Chiefs for camp this year.

Trent Green was up in the rotation to work with the first team at practice.

Cam Cameron is scoring points with the fans and players.

''Cameron really gets into the community stuff a lot more than Saban did,'' linebacker Channing Crowder said at Friday night's Captain's Party at Miami Beach Marina. ``A lot more guys want to come out to these things. He brings out a lot more of the old players, makes it kind of a Dolphin family really.

``With Saban, it was much more about winning on the field. Cam runs a much better overall program and I think Cam is great for Miami.''

Jennifer Floyd Engel has come up with a new deal for T.O.

Drew Brees is taking notice of the strides Devery Henderson has made.

"It was funny because we watched some cut-ups today from last year's minicamp," Brees said. "You watch Devery then and when you watch Devery now and I think the way he carries himself and his confidence level and kind of what he's experienced over the last year I think he's such a better player now than he was last year. He continues to get better and he's still a young player. He can do so many great things for us. He's such a weapon."

With all the barking about Mike Vick, the Joe Horn to Atlanta story has kind of fizzled. For those still listening, Joe is happy to be a Falcon.

More NFL Jabber 5/31/07

No more boozing it up in the locker rooms or on the planes. Players now have to save it for in the car...where they have been so diligent about not drinking.

Looks like the UFL needs seven more rich guys to make a league. Mark Cuban is the only one reported to be on board so far and they are looking at 8 teams.

Cuban had some opinions he shared on his blog regarding the subject HERE.

Evander Holyfield took a break from his training to give a pep talk to the Texans.

"I thought it was great for him to take the time to stop by here and talk to our guys," coach Gary Kubiak said. "It's amazing looking in the faces of those young players and the intrigue and what he's accomplished.

"The thing that I got out of it is he talked about passion, he talked about commitment and he talked about being a good guy. Those are things we talk about all the time, but when somebody like that stops by here and echoes those remarks that is as powerful as it gets. I'm just very appreciative that he came by."

Yes, the Trent Green trade talk is still going. The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have adjusted their offer for Green to sweeten the deal a little bit.

Larry Zierlein is doing what we all do when we send porn to someone we didn't plan to in our contacts...tell them it was spam. Seriously though he is stepping up (if you get any from me though it was sent to me as spam).

"It was 100 percent unintentional,'' Zierlein said yesterday, speaking publicly for the first time about his embarrassing mistake. "I don't even know how to mass email, I don't know these machines very good -- just a 100 percent unintentional thing. I hit the wrong button."

From the sounds of it, The Law has more witnesses stepping forward confirming that Mike Vick's dogs are competing for more than Best in Show. That is the way they word it anyway.

Chad Johnson is going to be running for a good cause...against a horse.

Cincinnati Bengals all-pro wide receiver Chad Johnson will race a horse at River Downs in Cincinnati, Ohio on Belmont Stakes Day, June 9, as a fund-raiser for Feed the Children, an Oklahoma City-based charity that provides food, medicine, clothing, and other necessities to children around the world. The race, billed as "man vs. beast," will be held on the turf course, with Johnson starting at the sixteenth pole and the horse, Restore the Roar, starting at the eighth pole.

400 plus touches is not enough for Larry Johnson in a season. They want to use him more catching the ball in 2007 as well (41 catches in 2006).

"That's the next step in his development as a running back in this league: His ability to come out of the backfield running routes," Edwards said. "We need to get the ball to our backs a little more than we did last year."

Joey Porter got his fine from the court but it still waiting to hear from the NFL jacking of Levi.

The Cards could start chopping heads this week to make cap space room for the rookies.

Jake Delhomme is pleased with what he can see in the new Panthers offense.

Bucky Brooks at SI.com now gives us the 5 Defensive trends that are rising.

Apparently they couldn't keep the Tank fueled in Cook County lockup. It's reported that Tank Johnson spent $700 on junk food during his stay at Casa Cook.

Jerry Porter has decided that his fresh start does not have to include the number change from 84 to 81 after all. Not after learning it would cost him $210,00 in reimbursement to Reebok and the Raiders for the jerseys still hanging in a sporting goods store near you.

"Man, there's a couple of nice cars I'd like to get for that money," Porter said. "I could buy a nice vacation home, or at least go half on one with someone else."

In other Porter news...Joey Porter is shelling out $1000 for clocking Levi Jones. You may have heard about that...

Reggie Bush has joined former teammate Matt Leinhart in the tabloids. Kim Kardashian and Reggie have been linked and it's confirmed...they have been cozy!
