Giving up a day off is not such a bad thing when your Kendrick Clancy. After being cut by the Cards he is straight to work with the Saints.

"I really don't have any time off, so I'm just going straight into the workouts," Clancy said after practice Monday. "Coming in, they give me this playbook and say you need to know this by Monday. It's cool though. I'm playing catch-up. I guess they're not going to just put me in the fire just like that. I'll get it.

"It was no fun when (the Cardinals) came to me and said to either take a pay cut or you're going to get released. I didn't want to take a pay cut to be out there. I kind of figure I could get on a team that was going to make the playoffs."

Tony Romo is ready to get paid...and he would like to see it before the season starts.

Our guest this week on "Cashing in on an NFL Player" is Lions DT, Shaun Rogers. Headlines read... "Stripper: Lions' Rogers touched me." Was it when the $1 was being put in your G-String or when you were straddling his lap with your chest in his face? I have been in....I mean, heard about strip clubs. Many have a "no touching rule" that gets broken when a customer cops a feel. From what I have "heard" you get reminded of the rule or ejected...doesn't usually make national news. Jones Soda, a local product that has knocked Coke out of Seahawk games, is getting an all star cast to pimp it.

"What a lineup. We are really excited about this," said Peter van Stolk, founder and chief executive of Jones Soda. "It's our goal to create a new fan experience."

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, tackle Walter Jones, linebacker Lofa Tatupu, wide receiver Deion Branch and kicker Josh Brown will be featured on bottles in the 2007 season.

NFL Jabber 6/5/07

The Chargers have signed TE Scott Chandler to a four-year deal. Could make for some dangerous two TE sets if they want to use them.

"It was kind of surprise that it got taken care of so quickly but I'm really glad to have it done," Chandler said. "I didn't think it would happen until just before training camp but everything came together smoothly and I can just focus on getting settled and playing football."

First step for new Raiders coach, Lane Kiffen? Do the opposite of Art Shell in every way.

David Patten is looking to get his career back on track in New Orleans. Good place for him as the Saints won't expect him to be a superstar and they spread the ball around similar to his old team in New England.

The BIG news in Denver is that Sam Adams has been signed to join the new D-Line.

With Darrell Jackson gone somebody has to step up at WR in Seattle.

"Darrell has been a great part of our offense for seven years, and we will miss him," receivers coach Nolan Cromwell said. "But there's always changes -- people move on and retire. So other people have got to step up and make plays."

NFL Jabber 6/2/07

Larry Johnson was looking stud like at camp Friday.

Despite rumors that the Saints want more perks in Jackson, MS, Coach Payton says they are leaning on returning there for camp.

"Our experience there was positive" last year, Payton said. "I just think it's something we will evaluate. I like the idea of going to a training camp."

The Steelers will have three spots open on the O-Line when camp opens. Yikes!

The Seahawks gave the boot to Kelly Herndon Friday.

A small Seattle soda company has beaten out Coke to be served at Seahawk games.

The Saints discovered one draft pick in a bar having beers.

Drew Rosenhaus wants to remind everyone that Kris Jenkins may be available in a trade.

"I don't have any insight on it, but what I've heard is he's definitely still on the market and for the right price, they would trade him," Rosenhaus said before speaking at a Charlotte Touchdown Club luncheon. "So it'll be interesting to see what happens."

Chad Greenway is ready to go for the Vikings this season.

"It's great to be back out here just running around and playing again," Greenway said Wednesday. "These first two (days) have really actually been pretty good considering I've been out for eight months."

I could not find the article they are using as a source but KFFL reports that Cory Dillion has not yet filed his retirement papers.

Karen Guregian, of the Boston Globe, reports unrestricted free-agent RB Corey Dillon (Patriots) has not filed his retirement papers with the league yet. Dillon's agent said he is leaning toward retirement, but would like to wait until summer to make a decision.

Braylon Edwards has made it to workout with the Browns.

Mike Ditka is not impressed with the NFL's effort to help retirees.

"I say this honestly, I don't know if 'a committee to explore' is going to cut it," Ditka said.

With Matt Hasselbeck still on the mend, Seneca Wallace and David Green will get the reps in minicamp.

The Titans first rounder, Michael Griffen, will be moving from Safety to CB.

After what some think the best draft in the league, the Browns stay at work with rookie free agents. They are bringing in nine of them.

The Cards could top that as they look to bring in 20.

The Bengals will have 14 at minicamp.

Greg Ellis isn't a fan of the 1st round pick of the Cowboys.

"This was not some generic thing -- the guy came to my house," the Cowboys linebacker said. "It's the next step. Everybody's assuming I'm gone."

As hard as the Chiefs try to replace him, Eddie Kennison just won't go away.

Cam Inman of the Contra Costa Times has some sour grapes about Randy Moss. He thinks it won't be such a steal for the Pats come playoff time...at elast they will have to worry about playoff time, right?

NFL Jabber 4/28/07-Draft Day

The best move for the Lions could be to grab Calvin Johnson if he is there at #2 and look for teams to make offers that want him. Worst thing that could happen is they end up with the best player in the draft.

It's reported the 49'ers are close to a deal for Seahawks WR Darrell Jackson.

The Titans are kicking up the effort to snag Chargers RB Michael Turner today.

"On Friday the Titans and Chargers discussed scenarios including a swap of first-round picks today, with the Titans also giving up a fourth-round pick. The Titans are scheduled to pick 19th overall, the Chargers 30th.

But the Titans might have competition for Turner. ESPN reported an unidentified team offered San Diego a first-round pick in the 2008 draft, and that the Chargers thought it was an acceptable offer."

Unless that trade for Lance Briggs goes through, the Redskins are expected to stay where they are at #6, which is a pretty good spot to be in considering their needs.

The Cowboys seem content where they are but are in a good position to make a move up or down.

The Seahawks are looking at going "Best Player Available" today. "

How he plays on Saturdays, how he performs in big games, how he performs against higher-level competition, that is really what matters most," vice president of player personnel Ruston Webster said this week. "The guy's résumé is the film."

The trade talks of Kris Jenkins going from the Panthers to the Rams looks like it will come down to the wire if it happens on draft day.

The Lions are in a great position to stay where they are or move back. either way, they will get a player that can make an immediate impact.

Dolphins GM Randy Mueller will move up to get Brady Quinn or back if he is gone according to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald.

The Vikings are picking at #7 for the fourth time in six years.

Because of the breakout season by Saints WR Marques Colston, the later rounds may be found more interesting for some people this weekend. Common headlines this year have included "Small School Sleepers."

The Texans are looking for immediate help and shouldn't have a problem getting it where they sit.

If I could watch one game a week Part I

Ahhh, the NFL schedule release. The time when we football fans can visualize the upcoming season...almost touch that it's real. So as the mandatory move of anyone who puts sports print on the net I'm going to go through and list my "must see" games. If I could watch one game per week (that is not just my team) these would be the games at this point. If I had to set my DVR now, this would be the list...


Week 1


The Super Bowl that should have been. The Saints will head north to face the defending Champion Colts. This game is likely going to be the hardest game of the season for the Saints. I say likely because I don't like the look of going to Chicago in week 17...brrrr.

Anyway, you have the Super Bowl Champions playing their first home game against the team that everyone wanted to see succeed last year, (If you didn't your a Falcon, Buc, Panther, fan or just plain evil.) Time for the Saints to show if they are for real or not and they have the national stage in the first game of the season.

My early pick: As much as I would like to see the Saints win, it's not often the Colts start the season with a loss. Colts




Week 2


San Diego and New England ended on a sour note in the playoffs. You know things are bad when the soft spoken class act LT says that your classless you should step back and take a look at yourself. Here is the chance for the Chargers to show if they can get mean.

Another interesting thing to watch here is how all the offseason moves of the Patriots translates to the field.

My early pick: Chargers...want to see them win, think they will win.




Week 3

Reggie Bush vs. Vince Young. Texans fans have to cringe watching this game. The two that got away. This game has excitement written all over it. These two have faced off in the Heisman race, NCAA Championship and now the NFL stage.

The Titans had some momentum rolling at the end of 2006. By now, three weeks in to the season we will have an idea if they still have it going.

My early pick: Saints will have too much for the Titans D.



Week 4
Seattle at San Francisco

This isn't the most attractive game on the schedule. The reason I have this as my game to watch is because I feel that the 49'ers are going to make the move to unseat the Seahawks as the sure thing in the NFC West.

This game can be telling as to which way the NFC West begins to take shape.

My early pick: I'm going to say that the Niners may not win the division but are going to start people taking by taking this game.

Sounds like Joey Porter may still be tough after all. The other guys didn't jump Jones until after Porter clocked him...giving him little chance to retaliate. Sounds like Jones buddy that was near by must have been on a hot slot machine. He witnessed it but doesn't sound like he helped. Ding, ding, ding, ding,

This isn't your early 2000's Texans anymore. Not long ago the team was "new." They turned a major corner by letting David Carr walk, he has been the face of the franchise since day one. Dominic Williams (Davis) will be cut June 1. Coach was given the boot last year. Matt Schaub and Ahman Green have already been named starters at their skill positions. Time will tell if all the changes will mean anything...

Rumors fly about the Lions #2 pick being for sale.

Trading Al Wilson is going to be a pain in the neck for the Broncos...okay, sorry, that was bad. Wilson's neck problems are holding things up for a trade to the Giants.

FB Terrell Smith passed on the Packers and signed with the Cards.

Ken Hamlin is going to be joining Roy Williams in the Cowboys defensive backfield.

Something not brought up too often yet but makes sense...what about Culpepper to the Raiders? His career is on the downside, he has a big arm. He has Raiders QB written all over him!

How many QB's can you fit in the state o Florida? The Dolphins already have Culpepper and Cleo Lemon on the roster. Now it looks like the trade for Trent Green is going to go through...and David Carr is on the radar. Sounds like a Tampa story except nobody is threatening to quit.

Speaking of Green, reports are that he wants to go to the Chiefs.

The Falcons have signed Chris Redman to back up Michael Vick.

The Seahawks will be keeping Bobby Engram on the squad.

The Titans have added depth in the defensive backfield by signing Bryan Scott. Worries of a loss of PacMan?

"This is another case of us addressing our depth and bringing veteran playing experience to our team," Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt said. "Bryan has experience at both safety spots and even corner, has made over 30 career starts and is still a young player who will contribute to this team."

Although it has been quiet as of late, Drew Rosenhaus is still looking for a new deal for Frank Gore.

Speaking of Drew, he said on "Best Damn Sports Show Period" that the Skins, 49'ers, and Seahawks have inquired about client Lance Briggs. Seahawks team president, Tim Ruskell says that is news to him.

Jeff Schultz of the AJC discusses how the trade of Schuab is not so much a testament to the commitment to Michael Vick but to how Schaub is not the answer in ATL.

"Bobby Petrino has held the coaching job for two months. I’m not certain, but I’m guessing all except 12 minutes for bathroom breaks has been spent on player analysis and watching game tape. If Petrino looked at Schaub and concluded, in so many words, “Wow!”, he would not be gift-wrapping the Falcons’ next starting quarterback for the Texans."

The Cards have promoted former NFL WR to offensive quality coach.

NFL Looking to put the smackdown on the bad boys with a new policy.

After a six year losing streak, the Lions are not going to lose the Turkey Day lead off game. Them loosing has become as traditional to the holiday as pumpkin pie.

The Chiefs are looking to giving the ball more to Michael Bennett to take some load off Larry Johnson.

“You don’t want to make one guy run the ball 400 times,” coach Herm Edwards said. “You won’t see that anymore. You won’t see it. We’ll get Michael Bennett in the mix, and you might have to get another back. There might be three backs. You need three backs. (With two backs) as soon as you get one nicked, then you only have one. You’re out of business all of a sudden. You have to change your offense.”

Gene Upshaw has again been elected as Executive Director of the NFL Players Association. That makes nine consecutive three-year terms.

Sammy Knight is out in Kansas City. The Chiefs let him go after his contract could not be reworked.

Pete Prisco feels that the Texans are making a mistake by going Matt Schaub over David Carr...I have to agree. Schaub will likely get the same back time as Carr did.

The Bears wrapped up eight of their assistant coaches with three-year deals today.

With Calvin Johnson's stock rising, the jokes of Detroit taking another WR rise.

NFL Jabber 3/21/07

Lovie Smith and Adam Archuleta will be reunited in Chicago. The deal sends Washington a sixth round pick.

In other Bears jabber, Rex Grossman says he deserves criticism...and praise, but his play wasn't as bad as made out to be. (Sounds to me like he isn't quite accepting the criticism part).

"In some games, I was bad," Grossman told the Baltimore Sun. "I had 13 or 14 games I'm extremely proud of and five or six that were really bad. The swings of criticism were much bigger than swings in my play."

Byron Leftwich's agent says he has not asked for a trade but does not know if he will show for offseason training programs next week.

Shaun Rogers is a no-show for the start of Lions offseason workouts.

Something else that looks to seal that Trent Green is out the door...Herm Edwards is talking about Brodie Croyle getting a shot to compete.

“He’s going to get an opportunity,” Edwards said. “Maybe it doesn’t work out. But at least you’ll know. That’s not to say he’s going to be the starter. I don’t know who that guy is going to be at this point. But it needs to be open for competition, in my opinion, from what happened last year. It’s just the way we need to go. I want to find out where he’s at. Until you give players the ability to go out there and do it, you never know. It’s just a matter of getting Brodie some reps where he’s in competition and … where you can see how he can perform.”

Big Ben makes no excuses for his off season in Pitt.

"You know what? I might have still had the same year," if there had been no trauma, Roethlisberger said. "Who knows? I'm not going to look back and say, wow, this is what caused this and this is what caused that. There's no need for that. It's a bad year. It's going to happen. That's just the way it goes."

There was an alleged rape at the home of Patrick Kerney. Kerney is not a suspect in the case, the alleged victim is a friend of his. Saeed Ahmed of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the woman and some friends got a ride home (she said Kerney's home was her own) from a bar from three men. After falling asleep she awoke to find one of the men raping her. She had the perfect idea to escape from a pervert by telling him that she was going to get a friend to join them.

The Packers have to fill a void at RB. Kevan Barlow' name is coming up (yikes). Perfect scenario would to get a stud in the draft but those are shallow at the RB position this year. Barlow's agent, Doug Hendrickson wants to remind people of that.

"There are two good backs (Oklahoma's Adrian Peterson and California's Marshawn Lynch) in the draft," Hendrickson said. "There's more maybe later on Day 1 or Day 2. But really, there are two good backs, and the rest are marginal, at best."

Jacksonville safety Gerald Sensabaugh is contributing to the Jags rise on the Turd Alert. www.jacksonville.com reports he was charged with having a loaded gun in his vehicle. I don't know if it is racial profiling or just Tennessee but where I come from, they ask us if we have been drinking, not if we are packing.

"The police department report said the radar indicated he was driving his 2006 BMW 84 mph in a 55-mph zone. The officer asked whether there were any firearms in the vehicle and was told yes but he did not have a carry permit, the incident report said."

It's the time of year again to talk about reworking the overtime system in the NFL.

Despite the departure of Norv Turner in San Fran, his system is sticking around. Good news for QB Alex Smith.

"I look forward to year two in an offense. It's been awhile since I have had that opportunity," said Smith, who has played in three different offensive systems the past three years dating to his final college season. "That's how you get to be a successful offense and win divisions and win championships. The Indianapolis Colts are the epitome of that. You look at their offense and they've been together for nine years."

LB Chris Draft has joined the Rams.

"We didn't promise him anything when it came to the position," coach Scott Linehan said. "But he's a proven player who has come in and played at a high level when he's been called upon to start. Certainly we're going to play the best 11 players on defense."

Darrell Jackson to the Saints?

It's early in the rumor stage but word is that the Saints may have an interest in trading for DJax. KFFL is reporting this using the webpage for The Times-Picayune as it's source but the page has nothing reporting it.

After the departure of Joe Horn this would be a huge pickup for the Saints. The question is what the Seahawks would like to have in return.

Tell Me this picture doesn't hurt if your a Saints fan. Horn's signing with the Falcons is official. "This is my last hurrah," said Horn, who in his 11-year career has 576 catches for 8,501 yards — more than any Falcons' player in franchise history. "I want to go out with a bang, not only with Georgia's Super Bowl but also contributing to this team and this community. I want to be able to say I gave it my all and we one a championship together. It's a sweet feeling that some have experienced in this league and I want to experience it with my teammates here."

Speaking of Saints and WR's, they brought Lafayette native, Brandon Stokley in for a visit.

They Seahawks signed saftey Deon Grant to a huge deal. After the Kerney signing they have released Grant Wistrom.

After a flying start out of the gate of free agency, the Niners are ready to slow down and focus on the draft.

The Bucs are the latest team to be in the rumor mill for a trade for Randy Moss.

Frank Gore's agent, Drew Rosenhaus is trying to work a new deal for the young star back. "Obviously, [contract talks for Gore have] to heat up after where the market has gone the past week for running backs," Rosenhaus said. All three deals were worth at least $20 million. The pacts were among 14 Rosenhaus negotiated or restructured for players in the last week. You'd like to think that a deal for Frank is imminent."

The Broncos have some decent options to choose from for Running Back in Free Agency. They are also considering the trade route for Willis McGahee.

After Ahman Green signed with the Texans, the Packers are in the market for a RB.

The natives are getting restless in Cincy as the Bengals are not making many moves.

Kevin Curtis is talking to Detroit about joining the team.

Pats are meeting with Dolphin WR Wes Welker.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer says weather was the factor for Kris Dielman staying in the San Diego vs. coming to Seattle. "The rain-vs.-sun dichotomy was re-emphasized over the weekend when the free-agent guard left Seattle in the middle of his soggy visit with the Seahawks and returned to San Diego after agreeing to re-sign with the Chargers."

Debate-Should the Titans keep Pacman or boot him? "I wouldn't want to be the one making that decision, whether to keep him or let him go,'' said Brian DeLucia, an NFL personnel analyst for Fox Sports. "You let the guy go and you're losing a really good football player, a real playmaker. But at the same time, is all this other stuff (the Titans) have to go through worth it?''
