Remember the "Bad" Peyton Manning on SNL?

It appears that the "bad" Peyton Manning portrayed on Saturday Night Live could be a model for a former Colts QB.

Jack Trudeau, who was a QB with the Colts from 1986 to 1993, was busted for partying with the teenagers. Hey Jack, no good can come from this. Ask Mark Chumura what kind of nasty things were written on the walls in the local high school.

Apparently Jack has watched too many TV cop shows where the crook says "You don't have a warrant" and the cops go away. The cops that showed up to his party went and got one when he pulled that card. What did they find?

"A warrant was obtained, and police later charged Trudeau with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Also, 12 people over the age of 18 were charged with possession of alcohol. Of those 12, five were also charged with resisting law enforcement after they were found hiding in the woods around the Trudeau home. One person who was younger than 18 tested positive for alcohol consumption and was turned over to parents."

Okay, so we may be giving Jack a hard time for doing some beer bongs with the Drama Club. To go along with it the Indy Star dug up every brush with the law he has had since 1986...including beatdowns, fighting with cops, and drunk driving. If it were not for him being 44 Jack could go to camp with the Bengals and likely get a job on his good behavior alone (Cheesy I know but it was wide open).

The Colts are feeling the turnover reality of the NFL. Only 11 remain from when Dungy took the team over.

The Panthers have kicked off minicamp.

The Texans are trying some new things at Free Saftey.

"They all have to improve at getting turnovers," defensive backs coach Jon Hoke said. "We have not been very good at that. With Glenn and C.C., you have two guys that are physical guys and can tackle and will hit people and those types of things. But they both understand we need to find ways to get our hands on the ball and create more turnovers."

Word is the union of Jeff Garcia and Jon Gruden has been in the works for a while according to Garcia's Daddy.

"This has been in the works for three years," said Garcia's father, Bob, a former junior-college football coach. "There was always something in the way. The money. The salary cap. This and that.

"Now Jeff has the opportunity he always wanted, to play for this coach. I can't wait. As far as I'm concerned, I say, 'It's about time.' "

Big Ben wants the no huddle...and it appears they are going to give it to him.

"I like the way he wants to run the no-huddle," Roethlisberger said. "Last year, we talked and talked and talked about doing it and never did it. We did it in the preseason against coach [Mike] Tomlin and Minnesota -- we marched down the field and I was done for the rest of the game. It was great. And then we never saw it.

"I like that he wants to do that and I truly believe this year that we will do it."

Drew Brees continues with his good deeds in New Orleans. Brees and some teammates took 31 New Orleans area kids on a fishing trip that began with a limo ride.

"Most kids have not really been able to have that experience," said Brees, who came up with the idea for "Brees on the Seas" back when he was with the San Diego Chargers. "Especially when you're talking about Children's Hospital. Some of them might be terminally ill with cancer, and it might be their only opportunity to do this.

"Sometimes the best treatment is just to get them out here and put a smile on their face. Sometimes that's the best therapy, to get them away from the treatments and the medicine and the doctors. Give them a place where they can just relax and forget about that for a while and just catch fish."

The Titans are expecting Ben Troupe to step it up this year.

The Ravens LB Bart Scott does not seem to be a fan of the new Commish.

"Is he his own government?" Scott asked. "He can succeed the court of law?"

Sean Payton is happy with the no-name guys the Saints got in the draft.

“Both of those players have been encouraging,( Usama Young, a third-round pick from Kent State, and David Jones, a fifth-round pick from Wingate)” Payton said of the cornerbacks. “When you watched Usama early in these practices, you could see that he’s someone who’s confident. He’s been pretty sudden with his breaks on the ball, he’s in good shape, and his stature (6-foot, 194 pounds) is something that’s impressive when you see him.

“In David’s case, he’s someone who’s been fluid. He’s got good foot speed.

“Both of these corners did some good things.”

That Patriots look to have their museum open by the fall of 2008.

It's an open competition at QB in Oakland and JaMarcus Russell is okay with that.

"I'm a team player," Russell said when asked about the possibility of being an understudy. "I'm one of the biggest cheerleaders they have right now. I'm the type of player, I would love to be out there. Whatever it is to help my teammates, I'm here to do that."

Rookie Adam Carriker is going to start at one of the D-tackle spots for the Rams.

Keyshawn Johnson is set to make his visit to the Titans today.

"He's a possibility here," General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said. "You look at the consistency of his career, year-in, year-out he's been a productive guy. He's a big guy, a big target, a possession guy, a veteran. I think those are things that would interest us."

Rod Marinelli is pumped about the speed they have in Detroit.

"If you haven't seen us for a year, you go, 'Wow,' " Marinelli said after practice. "They look different." We've got some really key veterans. We've got some youth coming. We've got the kind of speed I'm talking about on defense. The more speed you add to your defense, the faster your special teams get. There should be expectations here."

New Colts WR, Anthony Gonzales will have to miss minicamp to attend NFL sponsored event.

SI's AFC Burning Questions asks if Tom Brady can keep all of the Pats new WR's happy. This is a good question and actually worthy of watching. The Patriots have been the equivalent of the Brady Bunch in recent years (no pun intended but it's there). Donte Stallworth has been in Joe Horn's shadow for years and was set to break out last year if it were not for injuries. Some would argue that he still did. He was the big WR addition for the team until Randy Moss came in. There surely has to be some feelings on this. He can either take it as motivation or it can be a distraction. The sure thing is we will find out what kind of team player Donte Stallworth is this year, we already know about Moss.

Despite everything from wearing a wedding dress, dumping his teammates for a last second retirement, to the drug problems, there are many people out there, myself included, that want to see Ricky Williams turn it around. If the reports are true that he failed a drug test, furthering his suspension, Ricky Williams is dead to me.

Alan Fanceca has had enough of his time with the Steelers.

"This will be my last year as a Pittsburgh Steeler," Faneca declared, his left hand shaking slightly to betray his emotion. "No, I don't want to be here," Faneca said flatly. "It's a matter of them being able to do what they can monetarily and come after me. That's the only reason I'm here, on that chance that they would."

Ed Hartwell is officially going to be taking up space on the Bengals roster as of yesterday.

Tony Dungy has been named to the Time Magazine's 100 Most influential People list.

"I'm flattered by this recognition because I don't necessarily see a football coach as being tremendously influential in the big scheme of things," the Indianapolis Colts coach said in a news release, noting that one of his sisters is a nurse, another is a doctor and his brother is a dentist. "While my sphere of influence may be larger, I think there's a very big difference between influence and importance. What my siblings do is incredibly important."

Robert Meachum feels he is "living a dream" in new Orleans.

"All you've got to do is go out there and trust that God is with you and work hard and have fun. Just come to camp, come in shape and try to learn everything as quick as possible," said Meachem, who said he'll be in his comfort zone once he's on the field. "Then it goes straight back to football. This is why they came and got you, because you're pretty good at football."

Sean Payton is excited to get it going as well...

"I think it's a natural tendency to see how that guy's doing. No different than when Reggie (Bush) was here a year ago," Payton said. "I think this guy's explosive. I'm anxious to see how he does in these drills.

"This is always a chance to get your first impressions of these guys, and I think everybody gets excited to see what you have and try to get the ball rolling."

Philip Rivers and Norv Turner seem to have a mutual man-crush on each other.

“After being on the field, I'm even more excited,” Rivers said following one of Saturday's workouts. “We think a lot alike. He's just a ball coach. He just coaches guys. He's just out there.

“It's my style – just take it and throw it to him. Yeah, all the technique is there, and it gets coached up, but it's a real simple approach. That's how I've always played.”

Although not a glamorous pick, the Browns Joe Thomas fills a long time need on the O-line.

Jamarcus Russell is pleasing Lane Kiffen in Oakland.

"We're pleased where he's at and as soon as we can get him back here, we've got a lot of work to do with him,'' Kiffin said.

The Colts have given the boot to LB Gilbert Gardner.

Trent Green is still awaiting his fate in Kansas City.

Lovie Smith waits along with the rest of the football world to see if Lance Briggs will show for minicamp in two weeks.

"I have no idea," Smith said at the conclusion of the weekend's rookie mini-camp. "That's the first thing we've done that's mandatory, so I assume he'll be there. But if not, we'll go from there."

Patriots Loading Musketts

If the offseason in New England tells us anything it is that the Pats are loading up the musketts and are going Colt hunting. Their moves to aquire Wes Welker, Kelly Washington and Donte Stallworth made it obvious they were going to be prepared for a shoot out this time around.

Overshadowing everything else in the NFL Draft this weekend the Pats stole Randy Moss from the Raiders for a 4th round pick. Forget the baggage, this is a steal. It's like if you buy a car for $200 and it runs for a month, you got your moneys worth.

The Patriots are in the running every year but have cemented their spot as Super Bowl favorite for 2007 on Sunday. Ironically, the Colts lost both of their starting CB's from the Super Bowl run in 2006.

In his first move of showing he will be on his best behavior for his new team, Moss put up no fight on the money front. Moss reportedly restructured his deal to a one-year contract worth around $3-$4 million. A major drop from the $9.7 million he was set to make this year and $11.25 million next year.

It will be interesting to see how Moss handles being part of a "team" as he has not done that yet in his career.

The Peyton Manning Saturday Night Live episode when he does a great job of ribbing his family and himself is on again this evening. The segment where Peyton is coaching some United Way kids in a very Un-Peyton has become an instant classic. Cussing the kids out and nailing them with the ball. Using kids to pick up chicks. For some reason it is just REALLY funny when a good guy acts bad.

The Saints have locked up tagged DE Charles Grant.

The Colts have lost both of their starting CB's from the Super Bowl run. Nick Harper is a Titan and now Jason David is a Saint.

Browns GM Phil Savage is not scared of what the media calls "Damaged Goods" (AKA Adrian Peterson).

The Ravens could be looking for the guy that comes in at QB when they are done with Steve McNair. "

With Steve McNair projected to be the starter for the next two seasons, the Ravens are looking at developing one of the second-tier quarterbacks that includes Houston's Kevin Kolb, Stanford's Trent Edwards, Michigan State's Drew Stanton and Brigham Young's John Beck."

Daunte Culpepper is asking that the Dolphins let him know their intentions now.

''Since I am a player/agent and there are discussions about my career taking place, I expect to be included in those discussions sooner rather than later,'' he said in a statement e-mailed to The Miami Herald. 'As it pertains to being traded or released, I don't get to make that call so I will await the Dolphins' decision.

``I am sure that they will do what is in the best interest of the team. While those decisions are being made, I am continuing to do everything I can to prepare to play at the level of expectations of the Dolphins [if they keep me], the NFL fans, and most importantly myself. Until this week, it never entered my mind that I wouldn't be the starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins this coming season.''

Trent Green's agent, Jim Steiner, wants to know where his guys stands as well. Steiner may be trying to bully the Chiefs into a trade with the Dolphins...

"If it goes past draft day, then I think eventually the Chiefs will be in a position where they have to release Trent Green," Steiner said. While that has been speculated in the media for weeks, Steiner's words amount to a threat to Kansas City president Carl Peterson.

Vince Young can't do it alone although he makes it appear that way at times. This is the perfect time to start building around this franchise QB the Titans drafted last year.

"Superman can only climb so many buildings. He can't do it all,'' said Gil Brandt, former vice president of player personnel for the Dallas Cowboys. "Vince is certainly a great player. And if you are Vince, what do you do for an encore? Knowing Vince, I'm sure he wants to make last year look miniscule.

"But he's going to need some help. They've lost some key players in Tennessee, and they need to get some guys in place to make some plays for him. You can't count on him for everything.''

Although it may appear that it is time for the Eagles to begin looking at bringing in another young QB, they are not in a very good spot for it. With the 26th pick they may be reaching if they took one of the second tier QB's on Saturday.

The Saints draft is still in the hands of the Colts as they wait to see if Indy matches the offer sheet given to CB Jason David.

Don Banks is trying to remind everyone (article titled " Damaged Goods") that Adrian Peterson broke his collar bone. Disguised as information (which everyone already knows) is likely being put out there so if he gets hurt in the NFL Banks has the "I told you so" card.

For some reason our society loves to look back on those that have failed. Not a jab there, for some reason I'm one of those although I think of myself as someone who likes to see people succeed. It's like rubber necking at a car accident. You don't want to see anyone hurt but you can't help but look. Charles Robinson at Yahoo! Sports! Has outlined a list of the worst all-time first round picks for your rubber necking pleasure.

Jerry Jones has come to terms with the fact that sometimes you just have to move up in the draft.

"We do have our bases covered so if there were a player we could reach -- big if, big if -- that could come in and make the obvious impact, then that should be a consideration," Jones said Monday in a 60-minute session with the media.

The Colts took a hit in Free Agency this year. They have to wait until the end of the first round and have their work cut out for them fixing needs in the draft.

After the Pro Bowl injury to his elbow, Drew Brees is back at work.

“I had to go into rehab mode again for about eight weeks,” said Brees, who spent all of last season rehabilitating from major surgery on his throwing shoulder. “That’s frustrating. It’s another offseason where you have to do some rehab. I guess that’s kind of the business we’re in. I came out of it stronger.”

One of the most dominant headline subjects of the offseason has been quiet for some time. For now Lance Briggs is still a Bear.

"To me, Lance's situation is that he's a part of our ball club and I assume Lance Briggs, No. 55, will be out there the first game," coach Lovie Smith added. "Once he has to be here, he'll be a part of it. That's how I'm looking at Lance Briggs."

Meanwhile, the Bucs are the latest team tied to trade talk rumors with the Bears for Briggs.

Rumor has it that the Chiefs are talking to teams about a possible trade for Larry Johnson.

The Colts class is taking their field trip to the white house today.

"It's something that goes with the territory,'' coach Tony Dungy said. "We're looking forward to getting the treatment champions get, but more than anything we're honored to be representing the National Football League and the city of Indianapolis at the White House.

"I'm looking forward to many of our guys probably seeing the White House for the first time. I've been there a couple of times, but it's going to be a thrill for all of us.''

Could residents of New Orleans still use some socks for their kids? The Ex-Mrs. Strahan could have boxed up and shipped off the baby clothes but instead had a massive yard sale in front of her mansion. Football fans were disappointed to find no giants gear. What kind of fuming Ex doesn't try to twist the knife on the guy she hates?

Ted Ginn Jr. has turned alot of heads with teams looking for this years Devin Hester in the return game. The Jaguars are the latest to take notice.

With no picks in the 2nd, 3rd,or 4th round, we could see the Redskins trading down. Jason La Canfora of The Washington Post thinks that a trade up for Calvin Johnson could swing as well.

Character is likely going to be a big part of this years draft given the actions of the new sheriff in town.

"We've always had the information," said an NFL team scout, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "It's a matter now of the weight we give it; do you accept or decline a guy because of his background?"

Greg Olsen would love to be taken by the Jets next weekend.

"That would be unbelievable," Olsen told the Daily News. "You couldn't ask for anything better than that. My family would have to drive only 20 minutes to see my home games."

The Saints could have to wait until Friday to plan a direct draft strategy. They are waiting on the Colts to match or not on CB Jason David.

Picture this...Your tired on defense, it's the 4th quarter. The Rams decide to spell Steven Jackson a little bit...in comes a fresh Ricky Williams for you to slow down. If Scott Linehan got his way that may just be what teams face this season.

"I would have to look into it a little bit more,'' Linehan said during a pre-draft news conference with St. Louis reporters. ``But based on how he played and the kind of person he was to be around, I would certainly consider it, and I'd fight for him.''

Rams Coach, Scott Linehan, thinks that Ted Ginn Jr. can make the defense better in St. Louis.

"I promise you, if a player like Ted Ginn or any other player creates field position, or changes the scoreboard and makes it a 14-point lead for the Rams, our run defense is going to get a lot better," he said. "Because the team we're playing is going to be throwing. To me that's a logical way of looking at it."

Causing speculation, the Chiefs are interviewing RB prospects for next weeks draft.

The Saints can blow their draft options wide open if the Colts don't match the offer sheet given to CB Jason David.

The Saints added another LB via free agency this week as well, sighing Trev Faulk.

With no teams beating down his door, Corey Dillon is looking at retirement again.

Mel Kiper thinks the Falcons could make the move of the draft by going to #2 to get Calvin Johnson. "The Atlanta Falcons have an option," Kiper said.

"They are eighth. Do they move up to No. 2 to try to get Calvin Johnson? If Atlanta could get him, it would be one of the coups of the draft."

If I could watch one game a week Part II

Ahhh, the NFL schedule release. The time when we football fans can visualize the upcoming season...almost touch that it's real. So as the mandatory move of anyone who puts sports print on the net I'm going to go through and list my "must see" games. If I could watch one game per week (that is not just my team) these would be the games at this point. If I had to set my DVR now, this would be the list...

Part I

Week 5


Chicago making the trip to Green Bay on a Sunday Night. You have the whole, "Might be Brett Favre's last trip to Chicago," thing. Bottom line is these teams hate each other and that makes great football for me. I love rivalry and this one goes way back. I'm sure The Pack would love nothing more but to knock the Bears down a notch on national TV.

Week 6


Cincinnati at Kansas City looks like the game for me this week. Six weeks into the season these two teams could be defining their playoff chances. If nothing else we can see Damon Huard exposed for the back-up QB that he is (if he hasn't been already) against a Cincy D.

Week 7


Monday Night, Colts go to Jacksonville. No matter how their season is going the Jags always play the Colts tough. Look at the spanking they put on the Colts last season, 44-17 (which was also the lat Jags win). YES...the Jags vanilla offense put up 44 points on the team that would go on to win the Super Bowl. It appears that the Colts are the only team the Jags fully prepare for anymore so I look forward to this one.

Week 8


HATE! Pittsburgh in Cincinnati. My cousin and his wife had to run for their lives out of a sports bar after Palmer went down with that leg thing in the playoffs in 2005. Another patron stated before fists started flying, "Look what you did to our Quarterback." Despite how ignorant the guy was to think my 5'1" cousin played for the Steelers, it was my cousins fault too for wearing a Steeler jersey into a Cincy Sports Bar after the playoff game. As I said before, I LOVE a good rivalry!

Week 1


The Super Bowl that should have been. The Saints will head north to face the defending Champion Colts. This game is likely going to be the hardest game of the season for the Saints. I say likely because I don't like the look of going to Chicago in week 17...brrrr.

Anyway, you have the Super Bowl Champions playing their first home game against the team that everyone wanted to see succeed last year, (If you didn't your a Falcon, Buc, Panther, fan or just plain evil.) Time for the Saints to show if they are for real or not and they have the national stage in the first game of the season.

My early pick: As much as I would like to see the Saints win, it's not often the Colts start the season with a loss. Colts




Week 2


San Diego and New England ended on a sour note in the playoffs. You know things are bad when the soft spoken class act LT says that your classless you should step back and take a look at yourself. Here is the chance for the Chargers to show if they can get mean.

Another interesting thing to watch here is how all the offseason moves of the Patriots translates to the field.

My early pick: Chargers...want to see them win, think they will win.




Week 3

Reggie Bush vs. Vince Young. Texans fans have to cringe watching this game. The two that got away. This game has excitement written all over it. These two have faced off in the Heisman race, NCAA Championship and now the NFL stage.

The Titans had some momentum rolling at the end of 2006. By now, three weeks in to the season we will have an idea if they still have it going.

My early pick: Saints will have too much for the Titans D.



Week 4
Seattle at San Francisco

This isn't the most attractive game on the schedule. The reason I have this as my game to watch is because I feel that the 49'ers are going to make the move to unseat the Seahawks as the sure thing in the NFC West.

This game can be telling as to which way the NFC West begins to take shape.

My early pick: I'm going to say that the Niners may not win the division but are going to start people taking by taking this game.

The NFL is set to release it's schedule today...finally!

"On Wednesday at 1 p.m. Eastern, everything about the 2007 NFL schedule will be revealed. The schedule release day is becoming more and more like an unofficial holiday every spring. ESPN and The NFL Network each have two-hour specials. Fans have opportunities to study their schedule and map out their falls, particularly if they plan to travel to a few road games of their favorite teams."

Rick Maese of The Baltimore Sun plays a game of "what if" regarding the new Commish's hard hand on the bad boys. Maese goes back to the Ray Lewis starring on Court T.V. days and ponders what may have been had Lewis got the wrath that Pacman and Henry did from the league.

Mike Williams and Josh McCown played hooky from the voluntary mini-camp. Both players have been rumored to be in trade talks.

The Vikings had 25 players in for pre-draft visits yesterday.

Is it Johnson...is it Russell? Only Kiffen and his staff know. "

It's a great situation, obviously," Kiffin said of owning the rights to the top overall pick. "We're the only ones that control our own destiny. Obviously, we're looking at a number of options with players and also with trades."

Tony Dungy gives the commish a "Give'em hell Rodg."

"I think that's normal," Ted Thompson said of investing mostly in his own. "A lot of teams try to do that. From a timing standpoint, this was just a good time. It was good for the player and good for the club."

The Washington Post has a section on the Ravens but has had the same story for the headlines since March 10th when Willis McGahee made his first public appearance.

Deuce McAllister wants more in 2007. I would say that 1000 yards is decent when having to share the load with a #2 pick. Deuce isn't complaining about that though, he wants more out of himself.

"There were some things I knew I could do well, and sometimes some things that didn't feel as good," McAllister said Tuesday during a break from the team's offseason conditioning program. "The doctors and trainers did a great job. But probably the thing that I wanted, probably more personal than anything, I just want some of those 60- and 70-yard runs again. That's the ultimate goal."

Houston is the new Gothem City with Ahman Green in town.

"They see me out here running, so they know I am Batman, but I am human," said Green, who earned his nickname because of his lifelong infatuation with the comic book hero. "I can get broken down, and the first day of running definitely did that. But that's what we work hard for, and that's what our goal is: to work hard and be contenders in the AFC South."

The is a good article at The Washington Post on London Fletcher and the obstacles overcome. I love these stories. I get sick of hearing about the Pacman's.

"It slaps us in the face," said Gregg Williams, the Redskins' assistant head coach-defense. "He's had just horrible tragedy," added Dick Vermeil, Fletcher's first head coach in professional football. Only Fletcher will not frown along with them, his voice will not harden. Everything he has become is because of where he had been and the fact he had been able to break away when others never could.

"I think of my story as inspirational," he said. "If I can help one kid who may be going through the same things I did, then it is worth telling."

The Rams have 29 players set for pre-draft visits.

"To be honest, some of these (visiting players), we really, really like," Linehan said. "The rest of the them are a mixed bag. There's medical re-checks that we need on some players. And there were pro-day conflicts with some where we're really just getting more information on players."

Peter Sirmon has a one-year offer on the table from the Cardinals.

Mike Shanahan has signed a three-year extension with the Broncos. This guys has only had one losing season with the team.

The Colts are looking for another RB to replace Dominic Rhoads. Kevin Barlow is on the list of "talked to."

David Carr says he is okay with the backup job in Charlotte.

"I'm excited about the opportunity in Carolina," he said. "They've got a great team -- good offensive line, good receiving corps, solid defense ... Pat Hill (Carr's coach at Fresno State) and (Panthers coach) John Fox have been friends for a long time, and I know he's a great coach."
